Stephanie Ames

As a person facing the prospect of being accused of a crime, you will experience the most stressful and challenging battle of your life. I appreciate that. You need an experienced attorney who will stand up for you, build a strong defense and protect your Constitutional rights. I have fought for the underdog at trial and on appeal in state and federal courts throughout the United States in cases ranging from murder to bank fraud.  I have over twenty years experience focusing primarily on criminal defense and litigation.

I strongly believe in the jury system and work hard to advocate on my client’s behalf. You need an experienced and zealous advocate to investigate, prepare, and present your case. I will work tirelessly within the bounds of the law and ethics to ensure that you receive the due process you deserve.  I have tried over fifty criminal matters to jury and have obtained acquittals in a variety of matters from DUI to rape to felony theft.  I give each and every client my personal attention and limit the number of cases I accept so that every client receives the care that he or she deserves.

Throughout my career, I have represented individuals and corporations under investigation for or charged with, among other charges, securities fraud, mail and wire fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, RICO, trademark counterfeiting, extortion, and embezzlement.  I use my litigation skills to represent clients in civil and regulatory matters, including licensing and business disputes, often involving allegations of criminal conduct.

In addition to my trial court practice, I have successfully litigated appeals in the United States Courts of Appeals for both the Ninth and Tenth Circuit.

I am admitted to practice in California and Utah.

I have been an instructor for the Utah State Bar Continuing Legal Education and the Utah Police Officer Standards and Training.  I have been an advisor for the University of Utah Law School Mock Trial Team and guest instructor for the University of Utah Law School Clinical Program.

Professional Affiliations include:

  • National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers
  • National Trial Lawyers Association
  • American Bar Association
  • Federal Bar Association

My primary office is based in Los Angeles but I am able to meet clients in satellite offices in Ventura, San Bernardino, and Orange County. If you have been accused of a crime, you should never be without representation. Getting the right trial lawyer can mean the difference between conviction or acquittal. If you are in Southern California, I want to put my years of criminal defense experience to work for you.
